Forever Changing the Face of Cancer.

Last night I reported on Beauty Army's Facebook page the passing of Evelyn Lauder, at age 75 from ovarian cancer.  Evelyn and the entire Estee Lauder team forever changed the way we view, fight and stand for and against cancer; with all the shades at their disposal, pink would be the most famous.

Starting in 1992 little pink ribbons started to appear at Estee Lauder counters across the country as a reminder of breast cancer awareness and the importance of self exams.  What started as a simple reminder turned into much more; Estee Lauder and it's partners such as Clinique have created pink ribbon products for fundraising, earned the congressional designation of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raised $330 million in donations.  Money that in 2009 helped establish the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

"My mother carried the torch of our company heritage and the values that were passed to her by my grandmother, Mrs. Estee Lauder," her son, William Lauder, said in a statement.  She is survived by her husband, two sons and five grandchildren.

May we all carry the torch and continue to raise awareness.
